Oakland Cemetery

Following the tornado of 2008, the APC, the Georgia Trust and the National Trust cooperated in an effort to assess damage to Atlanta's historic fabric. Oakland Cemetery sustained significant damage: more that 100 trees and 7,500 grave markers were harmed. The four major monuments with elements that weighed more that 2,500 pounds have been restored. These include the sites for Gov. Joseph Brown, Winship, Gramling and Dougherty. Much of the tornado debris has been removed but the restoration work is on-going and has put regularly scheduled maintenance a year behind.
